For a round grip with the same shape and texture all the way around, logo up or logo down is largely a preference. Choose the view you like at address, then tell whoever is fitting them.
A grip with different textures around its circumference, a ribbed grip or one with a built-in alignment ridge needs more thought. Turning it around also moves the part you feel under your hands. Check the model before deciding the logo belongs underneath.
What does logo down actually mean?
Hold the club at address with the clubface square. Logo up means the main branding faces you. Logo down puts it underneath, out of your normal view.
It isn’t automatically a fitting mistake. Titleist has previously explained that it fitted its branded grips logo down because players wanted a cleaner look at address, while offering logo up on request. That’s an example of a preference, not a rule for every grip. You can read the Titleist staff response here.
If you like seeing the logo, keep it up. If it annoys you, say so before the grips go on. No need to turn it into a personality test.
Check for a ridge before rotating the grip
Golf Pride explains that traditional reminder grips have a rib built into the inside, which you feel once the grip is installed. Its ALIGN grips have a visible raised ridge. These are deliberate hand-position references, so their orientation matters.
For ALIGN installation, Golf Pride says to use the installation marks against the clubhead’s leading edge and check that the ridge is straight before the solvent dries. Follow the manufacturer’s installation guide for the model you have.
Our suggestion: if you want a plain view from above, choose a suitable grip before installation rather than asking a fitter to turn an alignment feature somewhere it wasn’t intended to sit.
Give the fitter a clear brief
“Same as the old ones” leaves a bit too much room for interpretation. Show them one club you like and confirm:
- The exact grip model and size.
- Logo up or logo down, where the grip design allows it.
- Whether you want the same setup across the set.
- Any clubs you want treated differently.
Ask to check the first club before the whole set is done. If you’re fitting them yourself, make that same check while following the grip and installation solution instructions.
Choose the grip, then the look

Get the model and fit sorted first. Then make sure the finished club looks the way you asked for.
